GoActive Ontario programs include, but are not limited to, the following types of programs:
- Stand-up Paddleboarding (SUP)/Paddleboarding: Typically 1 hour in duration, but may be longer or shorter depending on the scope of the activity. It includes a spectrum of activities ranging from introduction to SUP, fitness, or other recreational pursuits such as fishing, for all age ranges. This programming runs year round, with the cold months hosted within community pools as a fitness component. The leader/participant ratio is 1:8.
- Fitness:
Class. Typically 1 hour in duration, at regular morning and afternoon times throughout the week, at varied indoor, outdoor or combined locations. These run year round, accommodate small group sizes with 1 or more coaches directly instructing and supervising the activity. Some locations/classes permit infants & children to be in attendance with their parent/guardian, while others do not. This programming focuses on overall movement & conditioning, emphasizing consistent progress of the individual regardless of initial capabilities. The leader/participant ratio is 1:10.
Personal, and Semi-Personal Fitness & Wellness Training/Consultancy/Programming. These are offered by GoActive Ontario but are separate and apart from “Class” based fitness. These are conducted as a “one-to-one”, “one-to-few” (usually a one to two/three ratio), and as either as a single or multiple sessions, or any combination.
- Play: Offered through various methods and durations. This ranges from a few hours to multi-day camps intended to inspire, expose and build free physical movement, leading to sustained physical competency and confidence. It may involve and be offered with the other elements of our programming and the associated instruction, periodic and/or group specific outings, as well as coaching of “free thinking” expressed through movements in all environments, by day or night, in all weather conditions, with or without self-powered equipment. The leader/participant ratio is 1:10.
- Products: With access to and use of high-quality equipment from industry-leading brands, GoActive Ontario is able to showcase these products through their use by our staff & clients. Because of this opportunity, we are able to assist clients in the selection and purchase of products, often with excellent incentives to purchase directly from GoActive Ontario.

Release of Minors
For the purpose of this Policy, a Minor is an individual who is not of the Age of Majority as recognized by the Laws of the Province of Ontario. Children & Youth programs are designed for Minors. Parents and/or Legal Guardians must provide information regarding the release of their Minor at the end of each Activity or Program. If a Minor is allowed to leave independently or another Individual is to pick up them up, the immediately responsible GoActive Ontario Staff must be notified. Staff may ask this Individual for multiple forms of government issued identification if they are unknown and may additionally contact the Parent and/or Guardian.
GoActive Ontario Staff reserve the right to refuse release of the Minor if all conditions are not met, if they are not notified by the parent/legal guardian, or at their sole discretion, and may contact appropriate agencies to transfer custody of the Minor as required.
Standards of Conduct, Expected Behaviours, and the Right to Self-Determination
GoActive Ontario subscribes to a standard of conduct and expected behaviours of its Participants. GoActive Ontario acknowledges, and encourages, a right to Self-Determination. These standards, expectations, and rights, imply responsibility, and accountability for ones’ actions. There are limitations of response by GoActive Ontario staff and/or agents, acting in the interests of GoActive Ontario its participants, and bystanders.
GoActive Ontario provides services to and in presence of varied populations, including legal adults and minors. Any and all actions and behaviours, and how they are perceived by others within the activity and public, will reflect on the individual, group and GoActive Ontario.
As a Condition of activity with GoActive Ontario, Participants, hereby agree to abide by all safety, use, conduct & other guidelines and regulations, either explicit or implied, while using or partaking in activities at/with GoActive Ontario facilities, venues, and equipment. Additionally, they agree to dress and conduct themselves in a manner deemed appropriate for the activities and participant populations & clientele GoActive Ontario serves and operates around.
Regardless of location, in real life or on any forum/media associated with GoActive Ontario, please remember the following:
- Participation, and right of refusal. GoActiveOntario is an activity-based entity. GoActive Ontario leads, and instructs all levels of ability with our programming. It is understood there are varied personal experiences and responses to different stimulus, regardless of ability. The responsibility for the outcome of experience of activity is a shared one, between provider and participant. It is the providers’ responsibility to encourage participation, through various methods, cues and techniques. It is the Participant’s responsibility to be responsive to those methods, cues, and techniques, and to participate as much as possible, towards the goal of the desired outcome. At times, and within reason, Participants will be encouraged to move out of their personal comfort zones. At no time, will a Participant’s health and/or safety be placed at risk. All Participants, retain the right of refusal to any activity, at any time. This right of refusal shall be taken as explicit, and all measures will be taken by GoActive Ontario Staff to ensure the return to an appreciable “comfort zone” for the participant, with due consideration to the health & safety of all Participants. All program Participants will not be expected to involve themselves in any situation in which they feel their physical, emotional or intellectual safety is at risk.
- Right to respect, dignity, and freedom of expression. Everyone has a right to respect, dignity, and freedom of expression. This is explicit under the Canadian Human Rights Act and may be expressed in other statute or limitation, under the Province of Ontario and/or the Federal Government of Canada. As a rule, treat all others as you yourself would like to be treated. GoActive Ontario staff, agents, and participants that have found themselves not in line with that are expected to take measures to repair it as soon as possible and most appropriately. Those whom believe have been maltreated, are expected to notify the offending party(ies) as soon as appreciably possibly, so reparations may be made. The assumption of GoActive Ontario, its staff, agents, and participants is that we are all seeking improvement in self, group, and community-in any combination, priority or variation. Positive environments are essential to that. GoActive Ontario will do the utmost to provide such an environment, in consideration of the group participating, bystanders, and community, as is permitted by law. In reading and understanding this document, it is agreed upon by GoActive Ontario staff, agents and participants, to be supportive of that. When any action, language, or behaviour contrary to the support of this type of environment is indicated or observed, then it is expected the party self-identify and will cease any and all actions contrary to the aforementioned considerations, and/or remove themselves until such time they are able to support. If self-identification or cessation is not timely or effective, then the party may be asked to cease and/or remove themselves until such time they are able to support.
- Minors.
-
- Attendance. Minors are permitted to be in attendance to programming, where indicated. This attendance comes with conditions placed on the Parent and/or Legal Guardian (“Guardian”) permitting the Minor to Participate, to ensure the Minor conducts themselves in accordance with these and all other Policies and Terms. It is expressed to the Parent and/or Guardian, that they, and they alone, are solely responsible for the actions of the Minors for whom they take charge, and will be held to account. In the spirit of child/parent participation and fairness to all, it is recognized that each child/parent relationship is different. However, these relationships are pragmatic and unpredictable in nature, therefore there must be consideration given to risk mitigation. The emphasis is on prevention and planning, however, it is recognized that not all situations can be prevented. Situations may be engaged, and the expectation is they will be engaged with a focus on de-escalation. At no time, will the Minor be permitted to conduct themselves in a manner which places themselves, or others at risk. If at any time the Minor does present a risk to themselves or others, it is essential the Minor be brought to cease the action in reasonable time and fashion so as to not create or further risk or disturbance. Examples of disturbance or risk include, but are not limited to: Creating distractions which are deleterious to the conduct of Operations, Activity, Participants or Environment; projecting, dropping or otherwise moving items within the activity space they are not directly involved with; placing themselves within close proximity of participants conducting physical movements for which they do not agree or permit the minor to be; placing themselves within close proximity of objects which may fall or drop unpredictably and could harm themselves or others. It is expected the parent and/or legal guardian engage the minor directly. If the parent and/or legal guardian does not engage or is not present to engage, then reasonable measures will be taken to engage and remediate the conduct of the minor. If remediation is not possible within a reasonable period of time, then the minor and/or the parent and/or guardian will be requested to leave the activity.
-
- Participation. As a guideline, Minors at 12 years and greater may participate on a case-by-case basis in regular Activities with the expectation the Minor displays the attributes expected to participate in an environment with like-minded Adults. Minors aged 12 to 14 years of age, may only participate while the Parent or Guardian is present. GoActive Ontario will be the sole determiner if the subject Minor may participate in regular Activities. This determination will take into account the following and other factors:
- physical and emotional maturity;
- physical ability to safely perform the activity; and
- ability to acknowledge and follow instructions.
- Conflict & negative interactions, and resolution. GoActive Ontario operates in varied locations, populations and age groups. The Facilities and Environments, and the unfamiliarity they may present, as well as the physical nature during the conduct of Activities of GoActive Ontario, may bring about varied physiological, and behavioural responses in individuals. It is acknowledged this may lead to Conflict. However, this does not remove the right to self-determination. GoActive Ontario operates on the premise of creating and acting as a Steward for positive interactive Environments. Measures are taken to ensure this is possible and that Activities and Outcomes are predictable. However, it is acknowledged that not every situation, Outcome and/or interaction is Predictable. If there is conflict and/or negative interactions having an obvious negative impact on the conduct of Activity, Operations, or Environment of GoActive Ontario, the involved parties are expected to bring an immediate resolution to the conflict away from the activity or to depart immediately. The expectation is they will take action with a focus on de-escalation. The response of GoActive Ontario Staff is limited. It is not the responsibility of any GoActive Ontario Staff to bring resolution, mediate or otherwise engage negative interpersonal events, and have been instructed as such. Therefore referring the matter to appropriate authorities may follow.
- Intoxicants. GoActive Ontario Participants shall not knowingly be under the influence of, nor possess, nor consume legal or non-legal, non-prescription or recreational drugs, and shall not consume alcohol, tobacco or cannabis, on or at within reasonable proximity GoActive Ontario property, facilities or venues of operations.
- Venues & Equipment. Venues and/or equipment which GoActive Ontario uses, deserve the utmost respect as this may affect the level of enjoyment of others, and dignity for their time, effort and investment. Should either be deliberately harmed or damaged, by misuse, negligence, partial or full cost required to remediate the damage and associated loses (ie. Revenue), may be recovered from the Parties responsible either by GoActive Ontario, or its Partners.
- Communications. Please refer to the “Terms & Conditions”. As guidance, keep all posts and communications relevant and respectful to Activities of GoActive Ontario, and its Participants.
Disclosure of Special Considerations, Limitations of Pre-existing Medical Conditions, & Medication
Special considerations, limitations of pre-existing medical conditions, that could affect the Participant or the conduct of Activities in various Environments (ie. water, austere environments, etc.), ought to be disclosed to GoActive Ontario Staff. GoActive Ontario does not need to know the specific diagnoses or conditions, simply the limitations and/or interventions required to respond to or otherwise mitigate them.
This may be through use of MedicAlert jewelry, verbal or written instruction (ie. diabetes/insulin, severe allergies/EpiPen injector). Emergency and First Aid intervention will follow the protocols contained herein. There may be considerations that may need to be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.
